Sustainable Energy Finance Association (SEFA) Launches to Support Europe's Energy Transition
Brussels, Belgium 4-May-2023 The Sustainable Energy Finance Association (SEFA) is an independent, not-for-profit association that has recently joined the European industry associations landscape. SEFA's mission is to accelerate and intensify the deployment of energy efficient technologies and services in the built environment. SEFA brings together all stakeholders in the sustainable energy ecosystem, including energy service companies, contractors, property and facility managers, technical professionals, technology providers, and asset owners to achieve Europe's ambitious climate targets and safeguard energy sovereignty.
The built environment is responsible for nearly 40% of CO2 emissions, making it a major contributor to climate change. The European Union has set very ambitious 2030 energy transition targets, such as over 30% reduction in energy consumption and at least triple the current renovation rate across all of Europe's building stock. To make these ambitious targets possible, access to equitable finance will be critical. SEFA recognizes the urgency to achieve energy independence and the need to finance the massive private investment required for a successful transition.
The COVID-19 pandemic and Russia's aggression against Ukraine have dramatically highlighted the strategic relevance of the building sector to Europe and its energy efficiency in terms of health and socioeconomic benefits. Distributed renewable energy and energy efficiency retrofits are necessary to decarbonize the built environment. Yet, their large-scale acceleration requires both effective policy support and targeted, equitable, and innovative private sector financing.
Financing Europe's Energy Transition will be a high-level event, focused on core topics concerning the scaling and financing of Europe's energy transition. The event will kick off SEFA, whose core mission is the development and financing of sustainable energy in Europe's built environment. Bringing together representatives from the across the value chain, this event will discuss how to achieve Europe's ambitious climate neutrality goals by 2050 while ensuring the full range of benefits for its citizens.
The panel and keynote presentations will bridge the gap between policy, financing, and at-scale deployment of sustainable energy assets. They will address key issues such as how to pay for the energy transition, how to use this transition to strengthen the economy, create jobs, and successfully deploy capital without sinking building owners and businesses into unsustainable debt, as well as best practices and market-tested tools that can be used. By attending the SEFA launch event, attendees will have the opportunity to
Learn how innovative financing solutions can support Europe's energy transition, including stimulating job development and tackling energy poverty.
Hear from the European Commission and Parliament about the most important policy changes impacting the built environment that have come with the Fit for 55 package.
Network and connect with like-minded individuals and organizations from the finance industry, energy service companies, policy makers, and technology providers working to advance the sustainable energy sector.
Engage in interactive sessions and panel discussions with expert speakers from a range of sectors, including finance, energy service, policy, and technology.
SEFA recognizes the need for the entire industry to work together to succeed. The finance community, government, ESCOs, contractors, asset owners, property managers, and technology and service providers all play a vital role in achieving Europe's ambitious climate targets. Failure to pursue energy efficiency in the building stock now will inevitably mean 2030 ambitions on climate and energy transition are missed. Urgent preparation and implementation are required, and SEFA is committed to developing a path forward for all stakeholders.
